Turn-Key, Cost-Effective Solution

It is estimated that as many as 18 million Americans have sleep apnea and professional drivers might be at higher risk of having this disorder. A study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania and sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the American Transportation Research Institute of the American Trucking Associations found that almost one-third (28 percent) of commercial truck drivers had some degree of sleep apnea.

The study found that the risk of having obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) depended on two major factors, age and degree of obesity, with prevalence increasing with both. Anyone at any age can have sleep apnea but those most at risk are middle-aged men who are overweight and 50% of all people over age 60.

Frequent interruptions of deep, restorative sleep leads to excessive daytime sleepiness and, left untreated, OSA can lead to other medical problems including:

  • Hypertension
  • Coronary Artery Disease
  • Congestive Heart failure
  • Obesity
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Impotence

OSA is dangerous because the resulting drowsiness can be potentially fatal for both drivers and others on the road.

We Can Help

Step One: Testing

The first step is to assess your risk by filling out our fast and easy online sleep questionnaire. If your questionnaire indicates that you are at risk for OSA, we will work with you to arrange either a home sleep study which can be done in your home, truck, a hotel, or other place of your choosing, or an in-lab sleep study which requires an overnight stay in the lab.

Step Two: Treatment

AEON can coordinate with your personal physician or with our staff physician in obtaining a prescription for OSA treatment. Once testing is complete, we will move quickly to treatment in order to keep you on the road. The most effective and proven therapy for OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. This is a device that delivers a stream of room air into your airway that acts as an "air splint" to keep your airway open. CPAP therapy is generally a life-long therapy, however there are cases where a person loses enough weight so that they no longer need it.

At AEON Sleep Group, we are experienced in CPAP treatment for OSA and with keeping professional drivers safely on the road. After starting your treatment, AEON will coach you in your treatment and will provide you with the vital compliance documentation required by the Department of Transportation (DOT).

We will continue to be a resource for you to help with any issues or questions and to replenish your supplies.
